Your intentions and your actions

  • Endeavour to give your best to meet performance standards.

  • Conduct youself in public in a way that reflects positively on the Royal Association of Justices.

  • Ensure your behaviour reflects members'and the community's expectations.

  • Be fair, equitable, impartial and consistent.

  • Decisions should be made based on the experience of the membership and your commission.

  • Take whatever action is necessary to avoid a conflict of interest.

  • Maintain confidentiality.

RESPECT

How you treat other people

  • Treat members and the public with courtesy and regard for their dignity.

  • Treat members and the public fairly and consistently.

  • Be independent and cautious when witnessing documents of family and relatives.

  • Value the diversity and differences that all the members bring to the Association.

  • Negotiate tactfully.

  • Take reasonable care to protect the wellbeing and support of yourself and members.

ACCOUNTABILITY  

Your responsibilities to the Association, its members and the community

  • Work to improve your performance in delivering services.

  • Use resources at your disposal in an efficient ànd responsible way.

  • Show people the importance of the role Justices of the Peace play through training and development.

  • Provide a responsive, effective and efficient service.

  • Use systems and processes without excessive formality.

  • Observe all legislative requirements and reasonable instructions from people in authority.

  • Ensure the privacy of individuals is maintained.

  • Refrain from making any media statement or comment if you are not the delegated Association nominee.

ETHICS

Making decisions in difficult situations

  • Assess situations and identify dificulties.

  • Consider legal issues.

  • Consider your professional conduct when taking any course of action.

  • Think about the effect your behavior may have on others involved.

  • Look at the situation from the standpoint of your commission, the Association and its members.

  • Check relevant guidelines and policies.

  • Seek advice in situations outside your expertise.

  • Consider whether your personal interests conflict with the best interests of your commission, Association membership and the community.
